Only after visiting the castle (just 5 minutes by foot) we learned that the house has a historical importance. It's also 5-7 minutes by foot in another direction to the older part of the town with a lot of bars and other landmarks. There was a private parking available.

The fact that a good Guinness was on tap in minutes after getting settled in didn’t hurt. The pub atmosphere was typical small village with several locals. We got to chatting with one of them, he was quite friendly and helpful. The owner, Jim Burke, was helpful in recommending dinner locations for both nights. If you love Portuguese food he can tell you where to get a great meal!

Oliver the owner is very friendly and helpful with a great knowledge of the local area and Kilkenny the nearest large town that has lots to do and is well worth a visit.
